Dachshund

Dachshund is the original and official name for the popular and attractive sausage dog. In German, it means "dachshund" and refers to this dog's original function, which is to hunt badgers. Sausage dogs are also known as dachshunds or dachshunds. Both words are German as well, although the term most commonly used in towns is "Dachshund", while "Dachshund" is the most commonly used name for this breed among German hunters.

What is a Dachshund look like?

What is the rarest color of Dachshund?

The color varies in different shades of dark brown (from red to black). Acceptable colors for all varieties are:

Monochromatic - can range from red to yellow, with or without black spots.

Bicolor: can be black or brown with tan markings (rusty red or yellow).

Spotted - dogs are clown or gray, with the primary color always dark (black, red, or gray).

Dachshund or German Shorthair: The hair is short, shiny, smooth, strong, hard, thick, and close to the body. There are no hairless areas. This variety is the most popular.

Wirehaired Dachshund or Dachshund: Except for the snout, eyebrows, and ears, the coat is formed by blending the inner layer with the outer layer. The latter is sticky, thick, and regularly "wired hair". The hair on the muzzle forms a well-defined beard and on the eyes, they form thick eyebrows. On the ears, the hair is short and almost soft.

Long-haired Dachshund or Dachshund: The outer layer is smooth, shiny, and close to the body. They are the longest under the neck, in the lower part of the body, the ears, the back of the limbs, and the tail.

 

How is a dachshund puppy?

It is important to socialize Dachshunds from an early age because their natures are wary of strangers. Without proper socialization, they tend to be aggressive or fearful, whether with unknown people or with other dogs.

The Dachshund, when well socialized, can get along well with people as well as with other dogs, although socializing with other pets can be difficult.

 

What are the 3 types of Dachshunds? 

The Standard Dachshund or Dachshund comes in different types depending on coat and weight. The International Film Federation (FCI) recognizes three different types of hair (standard, small hair, and rabbit hair) and three different types of hair (short, hard, and long). In this way, the possible combinations give nine types of Dachshunds:

Other organizations, such as the American Kennel Club (AKC), recognize only two types based on size (standard and small) but recognize all three coat types. On the other hand, smaller varieties (miniature and rabbit dachshund) are also hunters, but they target prey smaller and less aggressive than badgers. The breed standard does not indicate a specific size, but Dachshunds are small dogs and their maximum height at the withers is usually between 25 and 30 cm. The difference between the items according to the chest circumference is as follows:

Dachshund Standard. Chest circumference greater than 35 cm. The maximum weight is 9 kilograms.

Miniature dachshund. Chest circumference between 30 and 35 cm, with a minimum age of 15 months.

Is a Dachshund a good family dog? 

These dogs are very playful and friendly with their dogs, but they have very strong prey so they tend to chase and attack smaller animals. Also, Standard Dachshunds or Dachshunds are often barkers.

Dachshunds are said to be very stubborn and do not respond to dog training. What happens is that they don't respond to conventional training, because they react poorly to the use of force. However, they respond well to positive training, so feel free to choose this method of teaching, based on positive reinforcement and the use of a percussion device.

Grooming a Dachshund's coat is simple, requiring no care or any other help. Logically, the Shorthaired Dachshund requires less effort than other varieties. These dogs require moderate exercise, so they adapt well to life in apartments, apartments, or small houses. However, they can cause some problems with neighbors because they tend to be barkers if the behavior is not corrected. 

How do you educate a Dachshund?

Do Dachshunds have health issues? 

Because of its highly elongated morphology, the Dachshund is prone to spinal cord injuries. Intervertebral disc damage is common. Accidents that cause paralysis of the hind legs are more frequent in this breed than in others. For this reason, it is important to avoid rough handling of these dogs, jumping, going up and down stairs frequently, and being overweight. 

The Dachshund is also susceptible to the following diseases:

Before adopting a Dachshund, you should be clear that they tend to bark excessively and dig in the garden. If they are left on their own for too long or bored, they tend to destroy furniture or other things, so you shouldn't leave them alone for most of the day.
