Sulimov dog. Description of the breed, its features, care, and maintenance

Most people have never heard of a new domestic breed: the Sulimov dog, named after the breed scientist who bred it. As it often happens, a new breed is the result of an order from law enforcement agencies: in the 60s, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR set the task of breeding such a working dog that could have an impeccable sense of smell. Herbal medicine had to be sought with the help of dogs, perfectly coping with this work. Since not all existing breeds could compete with the wild animals of the dog family in terms of smell, it was decided to pay attention to jackals or wolves.

History of the Sulimov dynasty

It was bred by a leading researcher of the Research Institute of Cultural and Natural Heritage named after Dr. Likhachev Klim Timofeevich Sulimov. In the early 70s of the twentieth century, Sulimov worked in the forensic department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for drug control. Well aware of the shortcomings of service dogs, he was passionate about the task - raising small dogs that would be easy to train and have excellent instincts. Choosing the founders of the future dynasty, Sulimov settled on jackals and Nenets Husky.

common jackal

A small, almost carnivorous predator. It looks like a wolf. Height at the withers - 50 cm, weight - 10 kg. The color is rational, the color depends on the habitat, varies from almost black to yellowish red. The species is found over a vast area from Europe to East Asia. In nature, the jackal is very rude, leads a nocturnal lifestyle. In monogamy, they choose spouses for life. Very smart and agile.

Nenets Reindeer Laika

- a primitive breed of small spitz-type dogs, which were formed in the tundra. For centuries, the Nenets used it to herd reindeer. Some dogs helped with the hunt, but the Nenets Laika was not a sled dog at all. They are distinguished by a lively, mobile temperament, they are very attached to the owner, they are human-oriented. At work, she shows independence, freedom-loving. The colors are varied. Reindeer like jackals are in excellent health.

For work, Sulimov needed not only wild animals but also jackals eaten by a dog. In 1975, he acquired several Baku Zoo. Babies were placed under the Nenets husky and then mated with them. In 1977, the first half-breeds were obtained with an unusual sense of smell, but they were difficult to train and were very afraid of humans. In 1983, Sulimov already had quarter-breed dogs that met all his requirements. Hence the name of the breed - is Kvartin.

The selection work continued for 30 years, but with the collapse of the union, the distinguished gynecologist was sent to a well-deserved rest, and the project was closed. Dogs had to be associated with friends and acquaintances, a large part of which lived with the creator on his pension.

The terrorist attacks that increased in frequency in the 1990s were undoubtedly a tragedy, but it was they that gave Sulimov's dogs a second life. Many airports began to strengthen their security, so the jackals were invited to work in the security service of Aeroflot, where soon the miracle bloodhounds began to drive Shepherds, Dobermans, and other breeds from the service. On December 19, 2020, the Shlika breed group was officially registered in the RKF system.

use

So far, Sulimov's dogs have the only purpose - to be a super detective. Most of the representatives of the breed work at Sheremetyevo Airport, a few dogs are in Domodedovo and law enforcement agencies. Dogs are trained to find explosives, drugs, and many other illegal items. When detected, it gives a signal - it sits next to the object.

The main feature of hybrids is their superior sense of smell. It also appreciates the ability to work in all weather conditions and crowded places.

Shalini works with pleasure and interest because this is an opportunity to have fun and get a treat. At airports, one dog and two doctors participate in each round. Each time, a lining is made for the sniffer dogs so that they do not lose interest in the work.

If there were no smugglers at the turn, an independent and clever hut would find a dangerous substance planted by a dog handler and would get meat for it. If you don't find anything for several days in a row, you will lose interest. Gridworks best in organic search, not a leash. He searches the area quickly, but most importantly - qualitatively.

The efficiency of Sulimov dogs is 95%. The duration of the active search is about 30 minutes, then the dog needs 1.5 hours of rest. Interestingly, the low tail speaks of fatigue, when it is wrapped in a ring, the hut is again ready for service.

Description of Sulimov dog

Quarter one is a unique dog. Shloka feels equally comfortable both in the frost (even at -60-70 degrees) and in the heat. Taking into account the fact that the breed was created for the conditions of Russia, these dogs are simply perfect.

The quartet does not differ in size and has a small stature. Therefore, their length does not exceed 50 cm, and their weight rarely reaches 15 kg. However, unlike mixed breeds with wolves, huts are stronger and larger.

Description of the Sulimov-dog-features-and-history-dogs-Sulimov-6

Quads are distinguished by activity and a very sharp sense of smell because smell is their main advantage. There were cases when the quadruplets found truly unique elements: for example, the tetrapod discovered a part of an elephant's tusk, which, in principle, has no smell, and not every dog can smell it.

Another example of their sense of smell is the accident that also occurred while checking the baggage of one of their passengers. The dog sniffed at something suspicious and made a beep. Opening the bag showed that it contained only hunting clothes and that it had traces of gunpowder. The clothes spent several days in the bag and the smell was almost gone.

Cottages rarely make mistakes: 1 in 200 cases. They smell better than even special devices. The Sulimov dog is invaluable when it comes to agility, as it gives them the ability to scan an entire aircraft cabin for explosives or drugs in a very short period.

appearance

Shalika is a compact, proportionally built light dog with a wedge-shaped head and erect ears. Average height at withers 38-45 cm, weight 12 kg. Sexual dimorphism is pronounced.

The head is medium in size, proportional, wedge-shaped. The muzzle tapers towards the nose, which is usually black. Lips are dry and tight. Teeth strong, white, whole, scissored. The eyes are medium in size and usually brown. The ears are relatively small, triangular, erect, with rounded tips.

The body is well balanced, the limbs are of medium length, rather dry, straight, when viewed from the front or back - parallel. The back is strong and straight. The abdomen is moderately folded. The tail is set high, curled, or carried.

The coat is very dense, thick, short or semi-long, straight. The coat is very dense. Some dogs have a pronounced collar, feathers on the limbs and tail. Colors are varied, most often monophonic, two-tone, and logical.

Description of the breed according to the RKF. standard

The main function of the hut is to detect explosive or dangerous materials.

The breed standard was approved by the decision of SOKO RKF Presidium on 06/15/2018. Shaliqa according to the classification of the FCI belongs to the fifth group - “Spitz and Primal dogs”.

The purpose of education is to discover (recognize) smells. The dog is intended for service use and airport security work.

The net in its appearance resembles a husky of medium size, growth is below average. An animal of the right addition, mobile, harmonious, semi-square format. The ratio of body length to height at the withers is 10: 9. The difference between males and females is not particularly apparent outwardly.

size and weight:

Height 38-42 cm (allowing a deviation within 3 cm);
Weight not less than 7 kg and not more than 15 kg.
The peculiarity of the appearance of the dog: in terms of the muzzle and head structure, it is similar to a wild relative - the jackal. This is expressed in appearance, the shape of the eyes, facial expressions, erect ears of medium size.

The hut has a not massive muzzle with well-developed mustaches (vibrissae). The tips can be described as dry and strong but at the same time graceful. The short tail is usually carried behind the back. The eyes are very expressive, the color varies from light brown to dark brown.

Sulimov dogs are very active. Their movements are free, light, well-coordinated, and fast. The run is characterized by canter and slack and easily turns into a sprint.

The coat is of medium length, characterized by the so-called wild type of hair, the outer hair is coarse, the undercoat is smooth. Outwardly, this makes the dog more voluminous.
Jackals have a special structure of paws (front and back). The center pads can be combined into a heart shape. This distinctive part of the structure, inherited from the jackal, is a desirable morphological feature of the breed.

White markings are allowed in any different color for the huts.

There are many color options for this dog breed. Most popular:

gray area
red zone
red of varying intensity;
sable;
With or without a dark mask.
All colors can be with white markings, let's say a small spot.

personality and behavior

By the nature of huts, they are very independent and freedom-loving, do not feel a strong attachment to a person, and immediately succumb to pressure on his part. The dog will walk obediently on a leash, but at the same time, he loses all initiative and becomes unsuitable for work. Very emotionally sensitive with a developed pack instinct and an ability to adopt the habits of other dogs.

Completely free from aggression and no conflict. In many other ways, it resembles an ordinary dog, loves to play and have fun with fellow canines, knows how to beg for good things, and gladly accepts praise and affection.

Sulimov dogs are very friendly and affectionate animals. They often show shyness towards a person, and sometimes they show outright fear. Very independent, smart, and cunning, which is especially noticeable at work. It is highly adaptable and able to adapt to environmental conditions.

Faults and denial of vices

Airport staff focus not on external data, but the qualities of the service dog

Particular attention is paid to males, who should have normally developed testicles that descend completely into the scrotum.

Education and Training
From an early age, huts can solve complex problems. They are easy to train, but they respond only to positive training methods. They do their work only for the sake of a treat, and not because of someone's strong love. With puppies begin to handle 2-3 months. Children are kept separately in common cages and a leader appears among them quickly. It was with him that gynecologists began to work in the first place. Then the whole group imitated him. The peculiarities of training and their methods of breeding Aeroflot dogs were not disclosed.

Detective work training lasts about six months. The dogs then pass the exam and receive a certificate which is then confirmed every six months. It takes several days to add any scent to those already learned.

Difficulties and problems in choosing a job

Wolves like the ancestors of the Sulimov dog were not suitable, because they were large and inferior to jackals in their sense of smell. In addition, the jackal of Central Asia or the Caucasus is a carnivore, and most of its food is berries and other plant products. This means that jackals will be able to easily identify herbal raw materials for medicines when searching.

But the jackal is a thermophilic animal, so the most cold-resistant dog breed was chosen for the couple: the grazing reindeer husky. Since jackals were initially enemies of domestic dogs, biologists used the imprinting method. That is, scientists used the instinct of any living creature, called "recognition". Therefore, a chick, a puppy, or a baby, who first saw a creature of any kind, associates himself with it. Jackal dogs at the age of 3-4 days were put to feed the husky. When the puppies grew up, they got along well with dogs.

Jackal dogs were taken in the Moscow Zoo, from 23 children and 14 adults, adapted animals were bred, which later took part in the creation of hybrids.

Nine animals died at a young age after catching severe colds. Moreover, it was the females who died from the cold. And only when isolated shelters were established instead of kennels, Did the death was stopped.

Gynecologists faced another problem: the coincidence of the estrus period in jackals and the time of estrus in domestic dogs. But in 1975, thanks to the efforts of biologists, the first few letters of the first generation of hybrids were obtained.

Content Features

In the Aeroflot nursery, huts are kept in small containers, but this does not mean that they sit in them for days on end. A Bloodhound's working day lasts an average of 12 hours. The cage is a small three-story building. Wool and droppings fall through the mesh floor into the tray, where the natural fermentation of waste takes place. Thanks to this, dogs are always clean. A feature of hybrid cars is the ability to live and work in extreme temperatures - from -50 to +40 degrees Celsius.

Care

Chalks are quite tolerant in terms of care. Seasonal plumage is very abundant, the rest of the time it is moderate. The short coat needs infrequent combing and even frequent bathing. Dirty has a specific dog smell. When necessary, clean the ears and monitor the length of the claws. Usually, they grind on their own.

Shaky intervened to guard the safety of Aeroflot
Aeroflot has registered a group of new breeds of service dogs in the system of the pathology of the Russian Federation. Now a hybrid of a husky and a European jackal - other than that of Shloka - will serve on the airline's crew. Boris Maksudov found out what their advantage is over the other four-legged brothers.

These four-legged officers are always in the spotlight. During each such run around the station, their sensitive noses decompose thousands of scents. Even inquisitive passengers are not distracted by this dog action.

Dogs with their partners walk fifteen kilometers a day. Sheremetyevo stations are located in their area of responsibility. They can sniff out all known explosives anywhere and in any situation.

This delicate nose will not replace even the latest technology. Thanks to the genes of the wild jackal and the domestic dog, the hut can distinguish half a million smells and work even in the most severe weather conditions.
Where to buy a puppy Shlikah
The only place where these super detectives are bred is the Aeroflot nursery, which is located near Sheremetyevo Airport. It is rather large, occupying an area of \u200b\u200babout 2 square meters. how much. The territory has about 50 working dogs and no more than a dozen war veterans.

Shaliqa, retired, usually settles in good hands. Many of them are being held by security personnel. The same fate awaits dogs that for some reason cannot succeed. Puppies are not for sale. From birth, they belong to the airline and are preparing for detective work.

They do not sell dogs abroad and do not abandon them even if they are unfit for service. True, the huts often went on business trips, where they showed their best.

Thus, the only way to get a hut is to take an adult dog from a kennel that has not passed certification or is retired.

price
The Aeroflot kennel puppies are not for sale. The price of the adult dogs trained for the search has not been disclosed. Klim Sulimov admits that it costs like a Mercedes.

Shaliqa's Special Abilities

She can smell the scent of a sick person who can only be distinguished from a healthy person by the results of a medical examination.
They have surprisingly strong ligaments and the entire musculoskeletal system. They talk about the case when the dog fell unscathed on its paws and ran away, jumping out of the window of the fifth floor.

Of all the known breeds, they are the only ones who can distinguish a person's gender by smell. This is especially useful for criminologists because it can significantly reduce the circle of suspects and speed up the search for them. Moreover, an ordinary dog is beyond his strength.

They are more likely to smell explosives at tiny doses with their incredibly delicate sense of smell. They tell how the dog smelled gunpowder in a bag deeply hidden, on a packed suit of a man who had been hunting it for some time.

Modern devices cannot be compared with the ultra-precise instinct of the Sulimov dog. Only once out of two hundred alarms can be false.
A service dog of a traditional breed needs a rest after half an hour of work. Solomon dogs can work for up to 15 hours straight (although they are replaced every half hour). And they don't care to be recognized as a breed. They just work the same. No other airport in the world has anything like this in its arsenal.

Shaliqa is an extraordinary dog. Thanks to the genes of the husky, he can withstand temperatures from seventy degrees below zero, and thanks to the genes of the jackal - up to thirty degrees. Very useful quality of service in Russia. Shaliqa is a small, agile dog with a well-developed sense of smell, thanks to which she can smell drugs and explosives and find people.

The probability of error is one in two hundred! Therefore, they are ideal hunting dogs. Surprisingly, the smell of this dog can distinguish the smell of men and women. According to statistics, 85% of cases are committed by men, and if Koch decides that it is a woman, he narrows the circle of suspects. These dogs are not able to make friends with people. They are not related to their owners. Thus, these are quick-witted and intelligent dogs.
